Dear Bob:

Put me down for the diving board “W” filled deepest side of the pool this year, Mr. D!

108 Wins and 54 Losses sounds bold enough for me!

  1. Rick B. Says:

I’d love for your 108-win prediction to be correct, Bill. I’m a bit concerned, though, that it may be the product of a hallucination. Are you sure you didn’t accidentally eat some moldy bread? : )

In any case, I’d settle for the World Series championship prediction coming true, no matter the Astros’ win total.

  2. Tom Hunter Says:

I don’t want to seem superstitious, but being on the cover of SI is usually considered a curse.

  3. Paul English Says:

I could be convinced of 108 wins but I’m not sure the Astros have much of a chance to win the 2006 World Series…

    • Bill McCurdy Says:

Paul – Unless I mistyped “2016” somewhere as “2006”, that I now cannot find, I will have to agree with you on the Astros’ chances in that particular World Series.

      • Paul English Says:

Ha! Yes – in the caption. It took my brain a few moments to be certain that we are actually in 2016 now! Time does fly. All good, Bill – as long as “2006” doesn’t appear above the Astros’ name on this year’s Commissioner’s Trophy!

      • Bill McCurdy Says:

Yikes! Thanks, Paul! – My sieve-like sight has blossomed once more. It now reads – what it was meant to read – but only with your major assistance to my error correction. 🙂

  4. Mike Mulvihill Says:

I understand rooting for the old home team, but 108 wins is a little much. Guess they have learned not strike out so much over the winter. Also woudn’t depend on much over Tom Verducci says after so many gaffs last year.

  5. gregclucas Says:

90 on the high end for me… 82 on the low. If I had to pick one I’d go with 90. (Remember Astros have been in post season several times with fewer than 90 wins so that is actually quite good.)

  6. Larry Dierker Says:

I’ll go with 91. I don’t see how they can hit or field poorly but neither do I see anything that looks like Smoltz or Maddux behind Keuchel. I fear McHugh’s mirror could break like Lima’s.
