The Bates Motel: where checking out early is no problem

The picture of Anthony Perkins reminded me of an anecdote from former Rangers beat reporter Mike Shropshire. This took place sometime in 1972 or 1973 after the Rangers first moved to Arlington, and Jimmy Piersall (played by Anthony Perkins in the movie “Fear Strikes Out”) was a coach for the Rangers. Shropshire had run afoul of Piersall who issued a mild threat along the lines of “I could go off on you.” (I don’t recall the exact wording, but it was something close to that). Shropshire’s response was classic: He said, “I know. I’ve seen that movie.”
