“The Bregman Stare”
~ As demonstrated by good friend and SABR colleague, Dr. Sam Quintero, at Minute Maid Park, in Houston, 9/27/2018.
Here come the hose,
The red ones, we suppose,
And they’ll be coming at us,
Punching at our nose.
They’d like to take us down,
For that last year crying clown,
That we left upon their door
In deep repose.
Let the Ghosts of Baa-stun ban-tuh,
As we celebrate the mat-tuh,
As a chance to watch the Astros
Double Close.
Give those Sox a sudden staa-yuh,
That will let them know we’re they-yuh,
And we’re coming they-yuh to win it,
Faa-yuh and squa-yuh.
Go, Astros! And give Boston your best shots! Thus, always winning your right to the post-performance Bregman Stare routine that energizes the whole team and the Astros fan base for more and more. We are simply without shame when it comes to our celebrations of good performance, but that’s exactly why there is no shame. When the spirit energizes the exercise of one’s abilities and then rapidly converts these potentials for a game into superior performances, the joy over the outcome is earned ~ and there is no basis for shame. Our Mr. Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros could be the poster boy for that little truism in baseball.
