September 2, 2017: The Astros and the Mets played a doubleheader in dedication to the people of Houston and South Texas who have been devastated by the largest hurricane rainfall in American history.

The New Logo Patch That the Astros Will Be Wearing was premiered and Mayor Sylvester Turner threw out the first pitch.

Like the Good Captain of the Good Ship, Astros Manager A.J. Hinch grabbed the mike prior to Game One to communicate the Astros’ concern and appreciation for all who have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey. He also lauded the Mets for their help in both making the twin bill possible, and for reaching out to the people of Houston with the Astros on the Friday day off they used to make contact with displaced fans. It was a beautiful thing to watch.

In a moment of historical irony, the Astros had to face pitcher Matt Harvey, #33 of the Mets, in Game One. Fortunately for the ‘Stros, this Harvey didn’t bring his “spitball”.

It seemed poetic that the pitcher the Astros faced in their first game back home in Houston and knocked out of the box after two innings was named Harvey. A prophetic harbinger of a strong comeback and finish to the regular season–and beyond? Let’s hope so.
