No snow. Plenty of ice. Redundant TV weather advisories to stay off the frozen streets of Houston.
Snow for a day would have been nice, but all we got was the deadly dark ice. Staying home is best. Who wants to end up as a quadriplegic from an ill-fated Starbucks run?
Enough. See what happens when I get trapped in the house with nothing to do but blog about nothing?
Forgive me too. I promise not to write another column for the rest of the day.

SNOW beg. here (Belton, TX) last night approx. 9:00 PM – we had 3/4 to 1.5 inches throughout the area no pictures – sun’s out and snow melting fast – but water will freeze up tonight (again) making roads treacherous except for those damned people that think 4×4 Pickup Trucks can do anything. The topography here is somewhat “hilly” got caught not being able to make small grade this morning – with Stop sign at top (mistake should have kept going) on way back from 6:30 AM Mass (minimal attendance – just sinners!) – had to back down to level ground and use shoulder for repeat effort (success!). Took 25 minutes to drive 8 miles – am same as you “house bound” -will start on Income Tax data (UGH!).

Yes, the beauty of the flat-lands. I was fortunate. Since the news was
reporting the “stay home” and “freeways are closed” messages, I was
able to venture on flat, smooth, dry surfaces for a 45-minute drive
from Missouri City to the Town & Country area off I-10 @ Beltway for a great lunch with an old buddy from long-ago work. Talked smart, caught up on everything from baseball to the UT TV network to education budgets to “what’s for lunch?” Then was still able to catch up with another batch of geniuses at Hooters in Stafford on the way home.
The sun is shining somewhere, and the Mudville nine won! Thanks
for all the old streets that stay in good shape and still got me to the
right places on time. It’s possible in Houston even when it’s 30 degrees.

Bill: Sorry about your cold weather in Houston: however, the last three days in the Fraser Valley, the temp has been -32, -30, and -13 when we got up in the a.m. Nonetheless, we have x-country skiied each day. As I write this at 5:30 p.m., it is a white-out and snowing hard. It will be good skiing tomorrow. Only 56 days until Opening Day at Coors Field.
